Civil-rights legend and Georgia Rep. John Lewis said he is going to sit out Donald Trump’s inauguration because he doesn’t believe Trump is a “legitimate president.”
“I believe in forgiveness. I believe in trying to work with people. It will be hard. It’s going to be very difficult. I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president,” Lewis said in an interview for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” to be broadcast Sunday.
The Georgia Democrat’s remark came after he was asked if he would “forge a relationship” with the next president.
Lewis cited the US intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia interfered in the election.
JSHAW What is a legend? John Lewsis was present during some civil rights demonstartion 50 years ago! but so were hundreds of others. No Legend. Why is the Media making a big deal of John Lewis, maybe because his opposition will rally some of the Black voters lost to Trump during the election?
Remember John Lewis shouldn't even be in Congress, been in DC for years--if we had term limits.
Can we please stop bringing up the civil rights era, That was 50 years ago.
Lastly, Get over it John Lewis won't attend the swearig in. Veryfew people care about Lewis and Donald Trimp will become President whether Lewis is there or not. I hope all the Democrats skip in the inaugural. America will start changing for the better!
